Arizona Sheriff sued by Justice Department

Last Thursdays a Justice Department lawyer filed a lawsuit against Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The lawsuit claims Joe Arpaio sheriff has failed to cooperate with the investigation into alleged discrimination against Hispanics by Arpaio's law enforcement officials. In order to obtain the document necessary the Justice Department had resort to litigation to gain access to public documents. Due to the sheriff's office was not collaborating with the necessary information. On the other hand the sheriff said they were collaborating and said to be angry the Department of Justice was saying the contrary. The sheriff also said that the lawsuit was because they couldn’t proof anything and just for documents. This lawsuit is the third lawsuit filed by the Justice Department against Arizona officials in the past month.

  2. Sheriff Joe is a major figure in the AZ political scene. He has abused his power as a law-enforcement official for a long time - could this be the end for his nearly 20 years as sheriff of Maricopa County? We will be looking at Sheriff Joe closely in future classes here.
