Tax Fraud in Mesa

Gregory A. Peters recieved a thirty-two month prison after pleading guilty to one count of mail fraud, bank fraud, and filing a false tax return( for the year of 2002). He has been sentenced to nearly three years in jail after stealing almost $590,000 from his clients. Prosecuters said that he filed returns that "showed that little or no tax was owed and sometimes failed to file a return at all". The believe that Peters collected the sales tax amounts for himself. Peters operated a bookkeeping and tax-return prep. company in Mesa at the time of the crimes.

My questions are:
Why didn't the government catch the fraud sooner?
How will the families be reimbursed, or will they at all?

  1. Timmery! Good post here - the real eye-opener here is the way that this man who was working with taxes knew so much that he could cheat the system to his advantage. With so many people filing taxes, its not hard to see why something like this can be overlooked, but hopefully this man will pay the consequences for his lack of integrity.
