Peter Zenger and Freedom of Press

In 1733 John Peter Zenger began publishing newspapers in New York to voice opposition onerous polices of newly appointed colonial governor William Cosby. Cosby issued a proclamation criticizing Zenger's newspaper scandalous and seditious reflections. In November 17,1734 ,Zenger was sent to prison, after eight months he went to trial. This was where Hamilton decided to plead his clients case directly to the jury. After hearing both sides Zenger was proven innocent.

Another good example of Freedom of Press would all the frequent press coverage against Governor's Janet Brewers passing of Anti-Immigration Law directly targeted against Mexican immigrants into Arizona, It has caused lots of controversy and many different sides have been
taken.
