Brian McBride Retires

A United States socccer legend is finally retiring. The native of Illinois, Brian McBride of the Chicago Fire announced his retirement after this MLS season. McBride made history throughout his career. He scored 30 goals in 95 international appearances playing for the U.S. team (third most goals in U.S. international history), and had 78 goals and 51 assists in 11 years and 211 appearances in the MLS with the Chicago Fire and Columbus Crew. He also played abroad for a little while, joining the English Premier League at Fulham, even becoming the team's captain, a rare honor for an American. He was at Fulham for 4 and a half years, scoring 40 goals, and later having a nearby bar named in his honor and for his contributions. He was also the first American to score in more than one world cup, scoring three goals in two different world cups. He retired from international play after the 2006 world cup, but played for the team in the 2008 olympics. When he was asked what he would do next, he stated he would not like to manage a team, but he may in the future saying,"I won't say never because I have such a passion for the game and I think I have a few things in my head that can help people". He played in 3 world cups throughout his 17 year career and will finish his final year with the Chicago Fire.

I would want to know more about what he would like to do after his career. It seems he would want to do something having to do with a team, wether it be some sort of coaching somewhere, or managing a team somewhere. I also believe he has much to offer, being that he played for so many years and had much success. Even for those who dont know too much about soccer, Brian McBride's career is stunning. What do you guys think? Is this guy not amazing? If you know nothing of soccer.......think about not commenting...

  1. Goodness Diego! I don't know a whole lot about "fut", but this is an inspiring story. Brian's dedication to his sport really showed in his performances over the years and, while he is stepping down, he's already left a big mark in the world of soccer.
