Where's our freedom?

During 1733, John peter Zenger began to write against the governor of New York; referring to him as a monkey, and basically making a fool out of him publicly. Naturally, the governor was appalled and had a lawsuit filed against Zenger. Soon after, Zenger was arrested, and later won the case. Thereafter, Freedom of Speech was born. It's basically the right to say whatever it is you want to say, in almost wherever it is you want to say it. Although we've had this for quite some time now, it doesn't necessarily mean it's been followed. In recent years, because of the "War of Terror", I feel like that right has been restricted. Our government has made our news providers to say only what the government wants us to know, basically whatever is to their convenience. So what I ask is, where is our freedom of the press? Why has a lot of information been intently kept from reaching us?

  1. Zaida! Excellent work on making the connection to the "Global War on Terror" or GWOT and its weird relationship with freedom of the press. I do think that we've seen a gradual limitation to what accounts for freedom of the press since this state of alert against terrorism began. The gov't keep secrets from the public in the hopes of protecting us, supposedly, but often at the expense of our ability to completely trust them if they leave us out of the loop the way they've done.
