The first settlers to come and colonize the Americas were the Puritans. They came from England and established a "New England" in the Americas. Though these new villages weren't a walk in the park. From 1630 through 1660 the Puritans influenced political, economical, and social development to a greater New England.
Puritans had a strict household. The father was "boss" and his duties were to provide for the physical welfare of the household, include servants, and make sure they behaved as they should. The wife, on the other hand, was expected to serve the husband, educate the children, and supervise the servants. The children were given chores to stay out of trouble. The only role they had was to obey their parents. If they did not obey there could be serious consequences for them, such as execution. Because of the immigration decline in the early 1640's, birthrates went up and resulted in a population evenly distributed by age and sex. Eventually the demographic realities joined with Puritan expectations to create a society of nuclear families.
Puritans were very limited with their religion as well. They believe that they should all believe in the same things and do the same things, as stated in document A. They believed that the bible was their guide to do things the way they did them. Although, the church had its own issues. Some included that many young people refused to be a part of the church,it was hard to defend the policy of not letting taxpayers vote because they were not a part of the church, and baptizing children to salvation. The problem began when people were getting baptized but were not becoming a member of the church. Since they were strictly against sin, they decided to solve this problem by recommending an intermidiate church membership that would permit the baptism of people who were not visible saints.
The first form of dempcracy were the town meetings that decided on the new town leader. These meetings were to ensure that men were given limited power. Only men could attend these meetings.
The Puritans accomplished alot in their time being here. Though not all of it was easy going, they managed to take control of their colonys and
